Tonight was the big classic movie night - The Wizard of Oz on the big screen at the Silver City in Newmarket. Great night out with my daughter and sister-in-law!!
Funny mix-up with the movie...
The theatre was fairly full with lots of little kiddies, in the 6-8ish age bracket. When the trailers started, I think the head of every mother in the theatre started spinning - the trailers were just wildly inappropriate for children and were verging on inappropriate for many of the adults. People started to comment out loud wondering what on earth the anticipated audience was that caused this particular choice of trailers - fast cars, fast women, demons, violence, blood and anger abounded. The horrifying Addiction Research Foundation commercial that shows what drugs do to teenage girls was just so wrong for the adorable little girl wearing her very own ruby slippers!
...then we all breathed a collective sigh of relief as the movie finally started - except that it wasn't The Wizard of Oz, it was Battle: Los Angeles, a movie about aliens attacking LA - very scary for wee ones. I haven't seen so many frantic looking people rushing out of a theatre since 1985 when there was an actual fire at a theatre I was at in Calgary.
Battle: LA stopped almost immediately and within minutes Dorothy was singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow and all was right with the world.
As we were leaving, we all got free movie passes. That's a total of 9 free movie passes I have gotten at that theatre since January, all because of mix ups with the movies :-)
