February's HQ Theme - Women of Inspiration

To gain some great insight into happiness, check out The Happiness Hypothesis.

I've decided to boost my HQ with monthly themes.  For February, I've chosen to re-connect with my female friends.  Let's us face it, for the sandwich generation - if you don't know which generation that is, you're not in it :-) ! - there isn't a lot of time left for friendships.  There are 168 hours in a week.  I spend at least 50 of these hours working, 56 hours trying to sleep, 10 hours commuting, 20 hours dealing with food and it's related chores, 20 hours a week spending time with my family, 3 hours playing in a band, 2 hours singing in a choir, 2 hours visitng my mom, 2 hours at church - this adds up to 165 hours and I confess to wasting away my 3 free hours on zipping through a couple of TV shows on the PVR, and the most wasteful of all activities - cleaning bathrooms! Every few weeks I manage to eke out a little time (robbing Peter to pay Paul!) to visit my mother-in-law who is long-term care. I also multi-task and some of you know first-hand that I squeeze in pre-work breakfasts, or phone calls while I am driving (yes, I use a bluetooth!!).  What I have ended up with is "f-email" friends, with real connections sacrificed to the busy-ness of modern life.

On February 12, good-weather willing, I am hosting a "Women of Inspiration" dinner.  I have invited 15 local women who I greatly admire over for an evening of exceptional company, good food, and great conversation.  I was a little worried that the only women who would agree to come would be my mom, my sister, and my 2 beautiful daughters who live with me and thus feel obligated, but to my great delight 14 out of 15 women are able to come.  I am really excited about this becasue they are all so fabulous!!

Although every guest will know at least 2 others, by the end of our get together we will have gotten to know each other, shared our favourite quotes, talked about who inspires us, and shared our best advice for other women.

Keeping my fingers crossed that the snow stays away!
